So, after the ASRD telling Lynn he has 60 days to re-home his animals, now the Alberta Agriculture department steps in and tells Lynn nothing is to leave the property until they test everything for disease. All of a sudden, we are told that everything at the GuZoo animal farm is a disease risk to both people and animals.
Lynn had homes lined up for 5 wolfs and 3 lemurs and was hoping to ship them today, June 16, only to have Alberta Agriculture tell him no.
Time is short, we were only given 60 days to decommission our zoo, on day 7 into decommission all efforts on our part to rehome animals were ordered to stop today. I can only imagine how long it will take to capture, take blood and fecal samples from nearly 400 animals, process and interpret the data. But we are told this must be done BEFORE any animals leave.
There has never been a report of any disease at GuZoo, so Alberta Agriculture is out of line in their assumption of disease at our facility. They talk about disease potential. Well, there is disease potential on every farm in the world. Why suddenly single one facility out?
They rant about increased disease risk due to co-mingling of exotic and domestic animals. A theory that has never been substantiated.
They define co-mingling as breathing the same air.

The SRD is no longer in charge, Alberta Agriculture calls the shots now.
Between this post and the last i have never been so angry in my life! I cannot believe that putting these animals down was even an option. Whoever decided this was the way things needed to go obviously has no care or compassion for animals. Seems to me that the minister or whoever this idiot is has chosen to do what is easiest instead of what is right because god forbid he pisses off some animal activist's that don't know their heads form a hole in the ground. Instead they want to put innocent animals down who have done nothing wrong. This is the most riduclous thing i have ever heard!! I do apoligize for my rant but i can't believe this is the so called solution they have come to.
Maybe if you didn't let people touch all of the animals or let animals roam relatively free they wouldn't be a worried about the diseases spreading. It's a huge health and safety concern petting one zoo animal, and another and another.
Mallory, you are behaving just as childish as our government. You all cry disease, disease, disease. But not one person can name a disease that can be transfered from one exotic animal to another via human contact. It is just a theory. There is no evidence to support this so called disease threat.
If it was a problem, than the zookeepers themselves would be spreading these "diseases". In addition I have evidence that "disease" threats to humans don't exist here at the Guzoo. Supporting evidence number one is the presance of my two healthy children. I conceived, held to term and birthed two children who have no health problems or birth defects.
Supporting evidence number two is the fact that my husband is still alive. He is an organ transplant recipiant and as such is on immune suppressing medications. He is the primary zoo keeper and he has blood tests done monthly to screen for pathogens. In all this time his blood tests have been clear.
Why dont you get a job instead of living like a hick out in three hills KILLING exotic animals. Your facility is nothing close to "sanctuary", i actually googled the definition and cross reference that with your facility pictures... Two very contradicting items. I think your 20 year attempt at building a so called animal sanctuary is an absolute joke. 20 years to build this facility and so far you have done literally nothing. Why would anyone go to this place over the zoos in calgary or edmonton? How can you honestly think that what your doing is acceptable? Am i at fault? I really dont know.
